USA axe Clever after conduct issues

Veteran USA flanker and captain Todd Clever has been released from the national squad for "multiple conduct violations."

Clever, who has 63 caps and has scored 11 tries while playing in the last two Rugby World Cups, did not play in Saturday's Pacific Nations Cup match.

"Todd Clever has been released from the Eagles’ Pacific Nations Cup squad due to multiple squad conduct violations, effective immediately," read a statement.

"Such behavior is contrary to the team culture that players and management have been fostering within the Eagles over time,” said coach USA head coach Mike Tolkin.

“Clearly, this is not a pleasant or desirable circumstance for either party.”
