Andrew Trimble has been ruled out of the rest of the season with a toe injury however he should be fit for the World Cup.

The Ulster and Ireland winger initially injured his toe back in October in a Pro12 game against Glasgow Warriors and has suffered a reoccurrence of the problem.

He underwent surgery today in London and will not be available again this season.

However he is expected to be back fit in time for pre-season and should be ready for Ireland's preparations for the Rugby World Cup.

Trimble has not featured for Ireland since last June's tour to Argentina, however he was part of the Irish side that won last year's Six Nations title.

The 30-year-old, who made his international debut in 2005, has been to two World Cups with Ireland.
