‘Travel factor won’t hinder us’ – Ackermann

Lions head coach Johan Ackermann believes the long travelling distance to Wellington will not be a factor when his side face the Hurricanes in Saturday’s final.

The Lions left Johannesburg on Sunday but despite having to make a gruelling 12,000 kilometre journey to Wellington, Ackermann is confident his side can return with the Super Rugby title.

“There is travel involved, but this group has won three out of four last year on the road and this year two out of three on the road,” he told reporters.

“I do believe this group loves to be together and travel.

“I do believe that finals are meant to be 50-50 and my view is that everybody do have a chance

“It’s a once-off game and maybe if we do the right things well on the day it’s not impossible.

“The pressure is on them, as it is a home game for them.”

Ackermann also said his side would be aiming to enjoy the occasion as they had been doing over the last few weeks.

“It was good to turn the tables on the Crusaders and the Highlanders, but more important for us is to reset,” he added.

“We must go and enjoy it.”
