Toulon confirm Ma’afu deal

Toulon have announced the signing of tighthead prop Salesi Ma'afu, who will join the Top 14 side from Northampton Saints on a two-year contract.

Ma'afu, 32, has 14 Test appearances for Australia, and won the Premiership title and the European Challenge Cup in his time at the Saints.

"Toulon is a great club that has won many titles and this is a huge challenge for me," said the front-row, speaking to Toulon's official website.

"The fact that there are several Australians already here, such as Matt Giteau, Drew Mitchell and Quade Cooper – helped me make my decision. It was part of it but not essential.

"They are great players and it will be an honour to play with them."

Ma'afu will join Ma'a Nonu, Samu Manoa, Quade Cooper and Charles Ollivon as the club's new signings ahead of next season.
