Top five fantasy scorers of round two: South African 'golden boy' leads the way while Quins duo at 'terrorising best'
Round two of the Investec Champions Cup is now complete, and the scores are in for those playing the Superbru fantasy league.
Planet Rugby have joined up with the podcast For The Love Of Rugby in the ultimate fantasy league table. Joining stars like Ben Youngs, Dan Cole and Anthony Watson, players can test their rugby knowledge against three of the greatest former players in the English game.
Before we reveal who chose wisely and who forgot to change their teams, let’s have a look at which five players performed the best in round two.
5 Marcus Smith – 30 points
The Harlequins fly-half was on typically fine form, as he guided his side to an impressive 68-14 victory over Bayonne on Sunday. He started with a sublime grubber kick to put long-time teammate Cadan Murley in for the opening try, before guiding a pinpoint cross-field kick into the arms of Kieran Treadwell for his first try. He was perfect from the boot, notching over 9 conversions, and picking up a well-deserved Investec Player of the Match award in the process.

4 Matthieu Jalibert – 32 points
The dynamic fly-half was simply unplayable for Bordeaux-Begles during their 50-21 dismantling of Scarlets on Saturday. His first try came within just 10 minutes, when he skilfully chipped the ball over the opposition defence before collecting and diving over to bring the scores level. His second came off the back of a brilliant backs display, which saw Jalibert collect the ball down the left-hand side, before diving over in the corner. It was once again Jalibert’s brilliance that set up Tiaan Jacobs’ try late into the first half, signalling an end to the visitors’ resistance. Another well-deserved Investec Player of the Match.

3 Cadan Murley – 32.5 points
The Quins flyer was at his terrorising best on Sunday. He made an incredible six clean breaks, beat three defenders, and got his name on the scoreboard. It was his insistence on getting his hands on the ball that gave him the upper hand, as he was able to use his strength and speed to make breaks where others would not.

2 George Hendy – 36 points
Three typical wingers’ tries for the 23-year-old at the weekend, as he helped Northampton Saints to a 50-5 victory over the Bulls. It wasn’t a complete performance from the up-and-coming wide man, but he was in the right place at the right time. Fans will want to keep an eye on his handling errors moving forward, however, as he found himself guilty of fumbling the ball on multiple occasions. But there’s no doubt about it, once he’s got the ball in hand, he knows where the try-line is.

1 Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu – 42 points
The golden boy of South African rugby was back at it this weekend. Proving that he can do the business in Europe, the 23-year-old assisted four tries, beat as many defenders and broke the line five times. Remarkably, he didn’t earn the Investec Player of the Match, but did pick up plenty of points for fantasy rugby players. Note: It’s worth watching the highlights of the match, just for Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s out the back of the hand passes.

For The Love Of Rugby – Results
Youngs recovered from last week’s ‘disaster class’ with…another one. Clearly too busy with his pod, five of his players selected weren’t playing at the weekend, and those that were didn’t score particularly highly. The former scrum-half was saved only by his inclusion of the always incredible Louis Bielle-Biarrey, and the return of Antoine Dupont, whom he had selected as captain. After scoring just 134.5 points in round two, Youngs currently sits in 502nd place, with just 88 active players behind him.
Watson also struggled in round two, scoring just 163 points, which dropped him down into 383rd place after sticking with a Prem-focussed squad.
Cole was the most successful of the three, achieving a respectable 195.5 points after selecting a varied XV. He let himself down by choosing two centres that failed to play, in Owen Farrell and Jurenzo Julius, but was justified in his bench selection of Charles Ollivon, who was auto-subbed in to win him 20 points. Cole sits 250th in the league.
Planet Rugby is in 127th place after a round of 232 points, mainly due to choosing Smith as kicker and Bielle-Biarrey as captain.
For The Love of Rugby fantasy rugby scores:
4 Ben Youngs – 244.50 points
3 Anthony Watson – 311.50 points
2 Dan Cole – 371.50
1 Planet Rugby – 417.00 points
