Simpson signs a new deal with Saracens

Gareth Simpson has signed a contract extension at Saracens with head coach Mark McCall citing his consistency and work ethic as key factors.

The 28-year-old initially joined Saracens as injury cover in 2022 when his former club Worcester Warriors entered administration. A brief stint in Australia with Western Force followed before Simpson was back in London on a permanent deal with Saracens.

Now an integral part of the Saracens make up, Simpson has been given the opportunity to grow further, telling the club website: “I’m really happy to have re-signed at Saracens. We’ve got a really exciting group of players, staff and coaches and everyone is committed and determined to be successful!

“I’m really grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had so far and am looking forward to continuing to grow as a player and as a person in this environment.”

McCall pleased to have got his man

Director of rugby Mark McCall is pleased to have kept his man, confirming that he will remain at the StoneX for at least one more season.

“Gareth is a top class professional who works very hard at his game,” McCall said. “He is a very consistent performer and we are very happy that he will be with us for another season.”

‘Incredibly exciting’ new club lined up for Fraser Balmain after Saracens confirm the prop’s departure after a single season

One in one out

This re-signing comes on the same day that Saracens confirmed that 33-year-old prop Fraser Balmain will be heading the other way – to newly revamped Worcester Warriors.

The former Gloucester man was limited to just six appearances in his only season with Saracens. He will hope that his move to Worcester will be more successful.

Speaking on social media, Balmain said: “Worcester is a rugby city through and through and that is a huge appeal for me. It’s incredibly exciting to join at such a pivotal moment and I will give my all to get the club back to where it belongs.”
