Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna is looking to end his push to play for New Zealand and instead represent Tonga in November and the RWC.

Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna is looking to conclude his push to play for New Zealand and instead don the shirt of Tonga in November and the RWC.

The 23-year-old was in the All Blacks training squad in 2012 but hasn’t yet made his debut due to fitness concerns expressed by Steve Hansen.

But the Auckland-born tighthead is, according to tvnz.co.nz, set to meet Chiefs and NZRU officials as he looks to be granted a November release.

“They can’t stop him from playing for us but we just want to make sure that things go smoothly for him in New Zealand as well,” Tonga high performance manager Peter Harding told New Zealand’s ONE News regarding prop Tameifuna’s situation.
