France outside back Thomas Ramos has been slammed for his actions during Toulouse’s 47-19 win over Harlequins in the Champions Cup on Sunday.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Ramos shoving Marcus Smith’s head into the Twickenham Stoop turf at the bottom of a ruck during the clash.

The scuffle occurred after the Quins fly-half brushed off the attempted tackle from Ramos near his own try-line.

Backlash for Ramos

The French international has been largely scrutinised on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, for his actions, with many suggesting that he should face a disciplinary panel.

The Dead Ball Area did not hold back in his summation of what occurred, posting: “Not sure why anyone is surprised with Ramos giving Smith a dig on the ground, he is after all a petulant little pr*ck. Smith is a bit annoying as well….”

Rugby Inside Line believes that Ramos could face a potential ban and highlighted his previous suspension for a similar incident during the Champions Cup last year.

“Citing incoming for Thomas Ramos? Potential leading with the forearm and it looks like he puts his hand in Smith’s face. Ramos was handed a 5 week ban under Law 9.12 (must not physically abuse anyone) for two incidents against Sale in Round 2 last year,” their post read.

One reply to the post believed that Ramos managed to get under Smith’s skin all game.

“Ramos was in his face all night, literally & figuratively. He charged the conversion attempt before half time & clearly fired off a few words in Marcus’s direction when he missed. The dive in the 2nd half was ridiculous, never seen Marcus so worked up, clearly got under his skin,” their post read.

Another believed that “it would have been a red had it been spotted at the time. A good ban is required.”

AP Cronje joked that Ramos lashed out at Smith on the ground because he couldn’t handle the bigger players, referencing Andre Esterhuizen’s try earlier in the game as the South African steamrolled the Frenchman en route to his score.

His post read: “Aaaah now it makes sense why Ramos was picking on Smith on the ground. Because when he has to face up to the big boys then it’s ‘thanks for coming.'”

The incident occurred in the latter stages of the encounter and had little influence on the game as Toulouse sealed their second Champions Cup win and top pool 2 after two bonus point wins.
