‘The score flattered us’ – Young

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young believes their win over Gloucester flattered them as they pulled clear at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

The 49-24 victory saw Wasps run in six tries as Danny Cipriani and Willie le Roux shone in attack, ultimately blowing the visitors away.

But after the game Young refused to get over excited by their performance, telling Premiership Rugby: "I was really pleased with the win. I thought the score flattered us a little bit, to be totally honest.

"In the first half there was a lot of nip and tuck, the game went back and forth. I was a little bit disappointed in the first half with some of our defending – they came into our half three times and came away with three tries.

"But we talked at half time about winning defensive collisions and I thought we delivered that in the second half."

Meanwhile, Gloucester head coach Johan Ackermann said: “It was definitely a game of two halves. There were highlights but there was disappointment as well in the way the game ended.

“The players’ effort was tremendous and maybe they didn’t deserve to lose by that margin, but then again it showed us what a quality side Wasps are.

“For us, as a team, if we want to play with the teams that have been dominating this competition, then there is still a lot of work to do.”
