Saracens' veteran Jamie George tangles with Bath's Ethan Staddon last Saturday in London

Mark McCall has insisted he is excited for the future at Saracens – despite the club failing to reach the Gallagher Premiership semi-finals.

The Londoners finished sixth on the table, two points behind Bristol Bears in the fourth and last qualifying place for the play-offs.

Aside from the 2019/20 season, when they were automatically relegated to the Championship following the salary cap investigation, this year was the only other top-flight campaign since 2008/09 that Saracens failed to finish in the top-four and challenge for the title via the play-offs.

Failure to qualify was a huge setback for the 2023 champions but McCall, their long-serving director of rugby, has shrugged off this disappointment in an upbeat end-of-season message to supporters where he warned Saracens’ top-flight rivals that they are “a club full of potential”.

He said on the club website: “The 2024/25 season has been a story of change. The average age of our squad is 24, with 13 academy graduates making their debut this season.

“We have our largest academy intake ever for the 2025/26 season, alongside some excellent senior squad recruitment. We are a club full of potential, I’m excited for the future.

“What makes this group and our club special”

“This season we celebrated some player landmarks; Alex Goode’s 400th, Jamie George’s 300th, Nick Tompkins’ 200th, Nick Isiekwe’s 150th. Andy Onyeama-Christie, Ivan van Zyl and Rotimi Segun all achieved 100 appearances. These moments – some of which are unlikely to be repeated – are what make this group and our club special.

“We are looking forward to watching all who will play representative rugby this summer and it will be a proud moment for all connected with Saracens when Maro (Itoje) leads out the Lions in Australia. Thank you, as always, for all your support.”
