Taranaki captain out for the season

After a poor start to the season, Taranaki were dealt another blow when their captain James Marshall sustained a season-ending injury.

Taranaki have made a disappointing start to the defence of their ITM Cup title with losses to Wellington and Auckland and their woes were compounded when utility back Marshall suffered a broken toe in Sunday's 30-24 loss to Auckland at Eden Park.

Marshall, who also plays for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby, confirmed his injury on Twitter.

"X-ray results have come through not good, season over before it really started!" he tweeted on Monday.

Taranaki will look to break their losing streak when they host Otago in New Plymouth on Saturday.
