Super Rugby Pacific final confirmed kick off time and venue for 2024 decider
The Blues will host the Chiefs at Eden Park on Saturday, June 22 as the sides compete for the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific title.
The tie was confirmed on Saturday after Damian McKenzie scored 15 points for the Chiefs in their 19-30 win over the Hurricanes in Wellington. The first semi-final saw the Blues down the Brumbies 34-20 on Friday punching their ticket in the final.
New champion to be crowned
Both teams have been there and thereabouts at the top of Super Rugby Pacific over the last couple of seasons where the teams each lost a final to the Crusaders (Blues in 2022 and Chiefs in 2023). Now with the Crusaders out of the picture, there will be a new champion crowned for the first time since the Hurricanes in 2016 when they beat the Lions to win the title.
The final will be played on the hallowed Eden Park turf thanks to the Blues‘ superior position on the table at the end of the regular season where they claimed second spot behind the Hurricanes.
The Chiefs have shown they are better than the fourth place they ended on after the regular season with McKenzie once again underlining his quality and surely putting himself in a great position to start for the All Blacks.
Former Crusaders boss and current All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson will be pleased to see two New Zealand sides in the final. No doubt the tactician will be watching next weekend’s final closely.
Match officials will be confirmed during the week in the build-up to the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific final.
