Springbok head coach Allister Coetzee has confirmed that Adriaan Strauss will continue to captain South Africa for the remainder of the season.

The Bulls hooker was initially appointed to lead the Springboks for the three-match incoming Test series against Ireland.

South Africa managed to clinch the series 2-1 after losing the opening Test, for the first time on South African soil against Ireland in South Africa, in Cape Town.

Coetzee confirmed that Strauss will captain the Boks in the Rugby Championship as well as the end-of-year tour.

"Adriaan has been appointed as captain for the rest of the year," said Coetzee.

The Bok coach continued to back his senior players, who he feels has been unfairly critised, while praising the impact Faf de Klerk made during the series.

"The senior players really stood up, as did the youngsters," he added.

"Somebody like Faf de Klerk, in only his third Test, had an outstanding game. It augurs well, and I’m really looking forward to the Rugby Championship."
