Following the Springboks’ 38-21 win over Argentina in the final round of the Rugby Championship in Durban, here are the player ratings for South Africa.

15 Willie le Roux: The full-back had a decent game with some good linking plays in the first half but did not manage to string anything of substance together. 5

14 Canan Moodie: The young wing showed strength on defence and at times in the kick chase but did not get much opportunity with ball in hand. However, he managed to assist a late try for Kurt-Lee Arendse. 6

13 Jesse Kriel: The centre defended well in bits but gave away a soft penalty for taking out the scrum-half. Was involved in the build up to the final try of the game. 6

12 Damian de Allende: The robust runner carried the ball strongly all game, trying to give his team a platform to work with but did not manage to influence the game otherwise. 7

11 Makazole Mapimpi: A very quiet game for a winger with such an impressive try-scoring record. Few chances with the ball and pedestrians at times. 5

10 Frans Steyn: The fly-half kicked well from the tee but poorly out of hand, missing touch from a penalty and kicking the ball dead from another. Not the performance required for the Springboks to push for the title. 5

9 Jaden Hendrikse: Subbed in the 60th minutes the Springboks put in a decent performance without setting the world alight. 6

Another fine display from the number eight

8 Jasper Wiese: The number eight was the pick of the South Africans by scoring a try, influencing the breakdown and carrying strongly in the 48 minutes he was on the field. 8

7 Pieter-Steph du Toit: Subbed after 48 minutes and struggling to replicate the form that he has been known for. Not a game to write home about for the flank. 5

6 Siya Kolisi (c): A try for the captain as he put in yet another passionate performance in every facet of the game. However, it was not enough for the Springboks on the day. 7

5 Lood de Jager: The second-row was quiet on the day and operated decently in the set-piece without making further impact on the game. 5

4 Eben Etzebeth: In and amongst the action for much of the game, including a lineout steal, but was yellow carded for a push on an Argentina player. 6

3 Frans Malherbe: The front-row was immense in the scrum and fulfilled his role on the evening in a powerful performance. 8

2 Malcolm Marx: Strong over the ball and strong in the carry. The hooker continues to show his worth at Test level. 7

1 Steven Kitshoff: Another strong performance from the loosehead who scrummaged like a warrior and was committed on defence. 7

Replacements: Decent contributions from Duane Vermeulen and Kwagga Smith while Faf de Klerk had a cameo to forget after being yellow carded within minutes of his arrival. 6
