Social media demands Joe Marler ‘spin-off’ after ‘national treasure’ banished from Celebrity Traitors
Joe Marler made it to the Celebrity Traitors final.
It is fair to say former England star Joe Marler is now a household name across the UK after his memorable performance on the hit TV show Celebrity Traitors.
The ex-prop captivated the audience with his dry wit and comedic persona, winning numerous new fans, some of whom knew him from rugby and many who didn’t know him at all.
Marler became the people’s favourite in the TV series, and there was even a ‘Joemance’ with Joe Wilkinson, targeting Jonathan Ross and ultimately betrayal from Nick Mohammed.
Star-studded cast
Since retiring from playing rugby for Harlequins and England, the charismatic front-rower took the opportunity to feature alongside some of television’s biggest names. Indeed, there were the likes of Ross, Sir Stephen Fry, Clare Balding, Tom Daley, Charlotte Church and the eventual winner on Thursday evening, Alan Carr.
Carr grabbed the £87,500 prize pot for his chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, in a stunning edge-of-the-seat final, outfoxing both Mohammed and David Olusoga on the night.
However, Marler was certainly one of the biggest personalities within the show, and has now announced that his next venture is presenting ‘Joe Marler Will See You Now’ – a spin-off show that has gained huge interest since being teased on Thursday evening.
While these are hugely positive noises for the former player in that he has wheels in motion in terms of his TV future, there is still shock after last night’s finale, as we cover.
England’s current squad were glued to their screens on Thursday night as they took time out preparing for Saturday’s clash with Fiji and their reaction was a common theme.

Social media success
Indeed, the users across social media platform X all seemed genuinely disappointed for Marler but were in agreement that his appearance on the show was a huge success.
@ShaunKM84: Whether he ends up winning or losing this Joe Marler has become a national treasure. #CelebrityTraitors
@TDesborough: Alan Carr may be the star, but I’m so glad Celebrity Traitors has allowed Joe Marler to show the nation what a wonderful man he is. He deserves every benefit being on this show will bring him. #CelebrityTraitors

This image from Ball Carrier brilliantly brought rugby back into the picture as they photoshopped Carr’s face on to Cheslin Kolbe in the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final.

The praise for Marler continued on X as England Rugby labelled him “the people’s champion” while some brought up Mohammed’s ‘baddy’ role in Ted Lasso in a funny take.
@OliverJHampson: I thought when Nathan betrayed Ted Lasso and leaked the news to Trent Crimm I couldn’t hate Nick Mohammed more. Then he turned on Joe Marler…
@Ashleypp1986: Joe Marler was banished for being too good at being a faithful! #CelebrityTraitors
Returning to the aforementioned ‘Joemance’ between Marler and Wilkinson, these viewers were firmly in the camp of the pair getting their own show in the near future.
@BurkeyBrap: I want a travel show or top gear relaunch with Joe Wilkinson, Joe Marler and Nick Mohammed! #TraitorsCelebrities
@kathiemcgregor4: If they don’t give Joe Marler and Joe Wilkinson their own spin off show after ‘Celebrity Traitors’ where they sit on two deckchairs and discuss plants, space and DIY and things, I am getting up a petition. #CelebrityTraitors
