American rapper Snoop Dogg brilliantly declared he wanted Frenchman Antoine Dupont in his NFL fantasy team while commentating on Rugby Sevens.

The popular figure was drafted in by NBC to take part in their coverage of the Paris Olympics thanks to his funny voiceovers on sports over the last couple of years, several of which have gone viral.

We certainly never expected an overlap with Snoop Dogg and Rugby Sevens but that came in a wrap up show for NBC which touched on France winning gold in the men’s section – their first gold of the games.

The clip used was of Dupont’s outrageous first touch in the final which saw him get the ball in his 22 metre area and skin all defenders down the left-hand side before playing an inside pass to his teammate who went over.

Running back!

As the clip rolls on, Snoop Dogg immediately gets excited and sees Dupont as an ideal running back for his NFL fantasy team.

“I need him at running back on a quick toss, 37 toss to the left. He’s got wheels. He deals, he falls, he spills when he gives to his homie, and he gets five to stay alive. So that’s five points. Now they grooving,” Snoop Dogg said.

Rugby’s new queen

Moments like these show how rugby as a whole is on the rise in the USA and even more so on the women’s side, who claimed bronze in Paris spearheaded by the popular Ilona Maher.

Maher’s popularity has soared while at the Olympics and, earlier this week, she became the most followed active rugby player on Instagram, moving past both Siya Kolisi and Dupont to 2 million followers and counting.

It bodes well for the sport in the country with the men’s and women’s XVs Rugby World Cup being hosted in the USA in 2031 and 2033.
