Six Nations still in doubt for Wales leader after knee surgery
Jac Morgan shone in his first game as Wales captain.
Wales co-captain Jac Morgan is set to miss the Six Nations after successfully undergoing surgery on his knee.
Morgan, who suffered the injury during a Challenge Cup clash against Montpellier, was one of the standouts for Wales at the Rugby World Cup on both sides of the ball as he settled into his leadership role brilliantly alongside fellow co-captain Dewi Lake.
However, Wales will likely have to go without him in the Six Nations, which begins in February, after Ospreys head coach Toby Booth confirmed it will be months rather than weeks on the sidelines for Morgan.
Booth confirmed the news after Ospreys claimed a 25-11 win over Welsh rivals Scarlets away from home to take the side to ninth in the United Rugby Championship.
Test of character
The head coach believes that, although Morgan’s resilience will be tested during the time on the sidelines, he expects him to hit the ground running when he does return.
“The operation was a success and the right thing to do and it needed to be done,” Booth told reporters after their win over the Scarlets on Boxing Day.
“He is a young man who heals quickly but the certainty about being a professional player is you know you are going to spend time injured and that resilience will be tested.
“We will look forward to getting him better off the pitch so when he comes back, which will be months not weeks, he will hit the ground running.”
Six Nations looming
Wales begin their Six Nations campaign against Scotland on February 3 at home in Cardiff as they look to build on a decent World Cup in 2023.
After the Scotland clash they will be away from home for the next two games against Ireland and England before finishing off at home against Les Bleus and Italy.
