Australia centre Samu Kerevi has been ruled out of the Rugby Championship following an injury sustained earlier in the campaign.

The 24-year-old has suffered a ruptured bicep and will undergo surgery, meaning that he will be out of action for between 12 and 16 weeks.

That duly rules him out of the rest of the Super Rugby season, as well as the upcoming annual international competition.

After carrying the injury through the June series against Ireland, the centre was sent for scans following the Reds’ 39-16 defeat to the Blues where the extent of the damage was revealed.

Kerevi said on Instagram: “Absolutely guttered (sic) but unfortunately my season has come to an end. Just wanted to thank everyone for the support throughout the @redsrugby & @wallabies season. Time to fix the body and rest up.”
