Sale issue Tom Curry injury update confirming the British and Irish Lions pick is scheduled for an operation

Sale's Tom Curry leaves the pitch at Leicester last Friday night
Sale Sharks have revealed that injury will force Tom Curry to go under the knife… but only after he tours this summer with the British and Irish Lions.
The England back-rower was last Thursday named in Andy Farrell’s squad of 38 for the trip to Australia.
Tom Curry injury
However, the soon-to-be 27-year-old was a casualty in his club’s Gallagher Premiership loss at Leicester on Friday night and his Manchester-based club have now issued a medical update.
While he will miss this Friday’s league match at home to Bristol, Sale have confirmed that the hamstring injury is minor and he will soon be back up to speed and available for selection for the Premiership title run-in.
The Sharks, though, revealed that Curry has been playing through the pain barrier with another part of his body and that the plan is for him to have a wrist operation after the Lions tour finishes in early August.
Speaking at his weekly media briefing, Alex Sanderson was asked to provide an update on the health of Curry following his enforced exit at Leicester.
“He had to see if he could manage it…”
This query resulted in the Sale director of rugby assuring that the hamstring tweak wasn’t a long-term problem but he added that a separate injury would need addressing during the off-season.
“He will need an operation at some point, but he is clearly able to manage it and play through whatever pain he is experiencing currently,” Sanderson explained.
British and Irish Lions snub claims Premiership award giving Andy Farrell possible selection regret
Opinion: The crazy Premiership is entertaining the masses, let’s embrace it
“It’s not something that is stopping his game minutes or something that is managing his training minutes either.
“He had to play and play through to see if he could and if the risk was minimised, which the specialist was happy with, and the pain was manageable, which it clearly is for the superhuman that he is, then he would put himself up for Lions selection.
“The alternative is he could have an operation now and he would probably miss the last run of (Sale) games and he might miss the first two games of the Lions.
“That wasn’t a solution, because the level of competition for his position was so high, he had to see if he could manage it.”
