Rugby World Cup quarter-final referees and match officials confirmed

World Rugby has confirmed the referees, their assistants and TMOs for the upcoming Rugby World Cup quarter-finals.

Jaco Peyper (South Africa), Wayne Barnes (England), Mathieu Raynal (France) and Ben O’Keeffe (New Zealand) will take charge of the fixtures.

World Cup quarter-final referee appointments

South African referee Peyper will referee the first knockout game on Saturday, October 14, between Wales and Argentina at Stade de Marseille in Marseille.

It is the second time that Peyper will officiate a World Cup quarter-final, having taken charge of the Wales v France quarter-final in Japan four years ago.

Peyper will also be officiating his 50th Test match on Saturday and will be assisted by Karl Dickson (England) and Andrea Piardi (Italy), with Marius Jonker (South Africa) named as the TMO for the fixture.

England’s Barnes breaks new ground becoming the first referee to officiate four Rugby World Cup quarter-finals, bettering the tally of Nigel Owens, Jim Fleming and Derek Bevan.

Barnes will referee Ireland v New Zealand on Saturday evening at Stade de France in Saint-Denis. He will be assisted by fellow countryman Matthew Carley and Christophe Ridley, with Tom Foley the TMO.

France’s Raynal will officiate a quarter-final for the first time, officiating Sunday’s first quarter-final between England and Fiji at the Stade de Marseille in Marseille.

Nic Berry (Australia) and Pierre Broussett (France) have been confirmed as Raynal’s assistants, with Ben Whitehouse named as the TMO.

Finally, New Zealand’s O’Keeffe will also officiate a quarter-final for the first time when referees France v South Africa on Sunday evening at the Stade de France.

Fellow countryman Paul Williams (assistant), James Doleman (assistant) and Brendon Pickerill (TMO) will assist O’Keeffe.
