Darcy Graham to switch codes as he comes to Great Britain's aid

Scotland’s record try-scorer, Darcy Graham, has been called into Great Britain Sevens squad ahead of this weekend’s SVNS World Championship in Bordeaux.

He returns to the World Series for the first time since 2018, having previously competed for Scotland Sevens from 2016-2018 and at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Graham reportedly “jumped” at the opportunity to join the squad, saying: “David Nucifora called and asked if I wanted to join the boys out in Bordeaux.

“I’m on downtime right now, but I jumped at the opportunity and I’m buzzing. If I wasn’t doing this, I would just be training away, so I’d rather be competing at a high level.”

Reflecting on what the sevens game has given him, he added: “I loved it. Me, Magnus Bradbury and George Horne have all come through that programme. I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without it.”

GB Sevens begin their campaign on Friday, facing South Africa (15.06) and Fiji (20.14), before taking on Kenya on Saturday morning (10.44). The side are aiming for a top-eight finish to retain their place in the World Series.

They are currently in 12th place, at the bottom of the World Championship standings, on just four points. There is a huge gap between Kenya in 8th and the chasing pack, which means a massive effort is needed this weekend.
