Racing 92 star arrested after second ‘violent’ attack on wife holding his child – report
Racing 92 and Fiji winger Vinaya Habosi has reportedly been taken into custody after a ‘violent’ attack on his partner.
According to reports in France, the Fijian was arrested on Sunday evening after a drunken altercation at his home in Plessis-Robinson, Hauts-de-Seine.
Vinaya Habosi arrested
Witnesses told French publication Le Parisien that an argument between Habosi and his wife led to the Racing 92 player pushing his partner who was holding their baby at the time.
It adds that after his wife fell to the ground, Habosi began to punch her in the back of the head. It is understood that his baby was not injured in the altercation while Habosi’s partner refused to be rescued by emergency services and had no apparent injuries.
The same sources told the publication that the Racing 92 star was clearly intoxicated and argued that he had not pushed or hit his wife.
Habosi came off the bench for the club in the 33-20 victory over Clermont on Saturday in round two of the Top 14.
Racing 92 have since released a brief statement which reads:
“Racing 92 has taken note of the facts alleged against its player Vinaya Habosi. Pending further information from the competent authorities, Racing 92 will refrain from any further comment.”
Not the first time
This is not the first time that Habosi has allegedly been involved in domestic abuse as he joined the French club ahead of schedule last year after his contract with the Fijian Drua was terminated.
A complaint against the winger was lodged at the Namaka Police Station for a reported assault in February last year and after doing their due diligence, the Fijian Drua decided to terminate his contract ahead of the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season.
“The Fijian Drua today confirmed that player Vinaya Habosi has had his contract terminated with immediate effect, due to a high-level breach of the Club’s Code of Conduct,” a club statement at the time said.
“The decision was made after careful consideration and full due process was accorded to Vinaya throughout the process. The Fijian Drua will not comment further on this matter.“
Habosi had signed a contract to join Racing 92 after the 2023 Rugby World Cup but linked up with the team ahead of schedule.
He would still go on to represent the Flying Fijians at the tournament in France and has continued to do so since.
