A memorial service will be held for the late Jonah Lomu at Eden Park next Monday.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key announced that a two-hour service will take place at the famous stadium to celebrate the life of one of the sport's greatest players.

Key described the service as "a public celebration of Jonah's life" running from between 13:00 and 15:00 local time, with the Prime Minister expecting tens of thousands to attend.

He added: "Jonah was much loved and a huge number of people will to come along and pay tribute to him."

"This service will be open to all members of the public who want to remember the significant contribution Jonah made, not only to rugby here and overseas, but also to the wider community through his work with charities such as Unicef and Kidney Kids NZ.

"The service will be a celebration of Jonah's life and I expect a large number of people will want to be there."
