Preview: Hawke’s Bay v Wellington

Date published: September 30 2014

Wellington coach Chris Boyd has made minimal changes to his starting XV for Wednesday’s Ranfurly Shield clash with holders Hawke’s Bay in Napier.

Jason Woodward has been cleared to play after initially being in doubt following Saturday’s defeat to Counties in Pukekohe, however, a slight back-line shuffle sees Matt Proctor drop to full-back, with Ope Peleseuma and newcomer Marvin Karawana pairing in the midfield.

In the forwards, Vaea Fifita comes into the starting line-up at lock for the injured Mark Reddish, while Eric Sione replaces Taniela Koroi at tighthead prop.

The Lions last won the Ranfurly Shield in 2008, after beating Auckland 27-0 at Eden Park. They kept the Shield secure through four challenges in 2009, before falling 36-14 to Canterbury.
