Preview: Edinburgh v Treviso

Date published: January 7 2016

Edinburgh have made three changes to the side which won the 1872 Cup as they take on Treviso in the PRO12 clash at Murrayfield on Friday.

There is just one change in the backs, as Greig Tonks comes in at fly-half in place of last Saturday's try scorer, Phil Burleigh, who has taken a knock to his neck.

Jack Cuthbert is retained at full-back, with Dougie Fife and Damien Hoyland on the wings. Michael Allen and Matt Scott, meanwhile, continue their centre partnership and scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne stays to partner Tonks in the half-backs.

Rory Sutherland and WP Nel remain at loosehead and tighthead with Neil Cochrane moving up from the bench to complete the front-row, in place of Ross Ford who sustained a rib injury last week.

Alex Toolis moves up from the bench to partner Anton Bresler in the second-row, in place of brother Ben who is not considered due to a knock to his elbow, while captain Mike Coman and John Hardie remain at blindside and openside.

Retaining the number eight shirt is Cornell Du Preez, who will run on to the pitch ahead of his team-mates this week to mark his 50th cap for the club.

Meanwhile, Treviso enter the game on the back of successive losses to Italian rivals Zebre which ultimately cost head coach Umberto Casellato his job.

Marius Goosen takes charge for Friday's match and names a side that includes Italian internationals Luke McLean, Andrea Pratichetti and Alberto Sgarbi in the backline, with Robert Barbieri and Alessandro Zanni hoping to impose themselves on the Scottish side from the back-row.

Form: Edinburgh have won their last three matches in all competitions, with all fixtures being played at Murrayfield despite one of them counting as an away game. The Scotsmen have in fact only lost one of their last eight encounters at the famous venue: 14-16 to Munster in the Guinness PRO12 on 7th November. Benetton Treviso have not won a game in any tournament since beating Cardiff Blues 40-24 at Stadio Monigo in the Guinness PRO12 on 20th February 2015 whilst their only away victory since May 2013 came against Zebre in Parma in December 2014. Edinburgh won 27-24 in Treviso in round 2 to add to the PRO12 double they achieved over the Italians last season. The only Italian club side ever to have won a game at Murrayfield is Treviso themselves who did so against Edinburgh in the Guinness PRO12 in October 2012.
