The Champions Cup final served up a thrilling battle that was required to go further than regular time, with Toulouse claiming a 31-22 win over Leinster in club rugby’s biggest game.

There were some stunning performances across the board, but none better than the Toulouse skipper and Player of the Match Antoine Dupont, who was absolutely everywhere for the French giants.

Legendary outing

His efforts in the final were widely praised with esteemed pundit Bernard Jackman labelling it as one of the greatest performances in Champions Cup history. The former Ireland international highlighted how complete Dupont’s skillset is in an effort that also included four breakdown steals – an area of the game the scrum-half felt has benefited from his sevens training.

Dupont’s quality as a rugby player has been lauded for years now with fans celebrating his outrageous ability shown week in and week out by the Les Bleus man. His influence extends beyond the 15s game, with his short career in sevens already offering silverware as the Olympics looms in a couple of months’ time.

G.O.A.T debate

The exploits of the Frenchman in the final have thrown the rugby world into immense debate over who is the Greatest of All Time or the G.O.A.T.

Dupont is definitely within reach of that coveted title but may not be quite there just yet. Many engaged in the debate felt that the star is missing a Rugby World Cup in his trophy cabinet, and only then could he be considered. Interestingly the late great Jonah Lomu has been considered an all-time great despite not lifting the William Webb Ellis Cup.

Other fans immediately supported him, stating that he is already the G.O.A.T., while on the other hand, some supporters felt he would never reach that category. The vote is now over to the readers, who will decide what he needs to do.

In the meantime, Dupont does not have much time to rest and enjoy his title after being named in the France squad for the final SVNS leg in Madrid.
