‘No better way to do it’ – Jasper Wiese dreams of first Springboks outing with brother

Jasper Wiese is relishing the opportunity of potentially playing alongside his brother, Cobus, in the Springboks jersey.
The brothers have never played in the team before and could do so for the first time in the Green and Gold jersey, with younger sibling Cobus earning his maiden call-up to the squad this year.
A Rugby World Cup winner in 2023, Jasper started his career at the Cheetahs before signing for Premiership club Leicester Tigers while Cobus turned out for the Stormers prior to his move to Sale Sharks.

Ahead of the 2024/25 season, the latter made his return to South Africa, signing for the Bulls and helping the club reach the United Rugby Championship final which earned him a maiden call-up to the Bok squad.
Speaking ahead of South Africa’s first Test match of the year, Jasper said that he hopes to finally get the opportunity to play alongside his brother, with the Boks being the perfect team to do it for the first time.
“We’ve never had the opportunity to play together, and I don’t think there is a better way to do it than by representing your country together,” he said.
“So, I really hope he gets a run at it, and obviously it’s a massive privilege to have him here, and I’m very glad for him.
“It’s something he’s always dreamed of as well, so I’m really, really glad he’s here, and I hope he uses the opportunity.”

Big brother has been impressed by his sibling’s form for the Bulls since returning from the UK and hopes that it can translate to the Springboks when he gets his opportunity.
“I try to watch as many of his games as I possibly can, but I think he’s had a really good season,” he added.
“The move to South Africa did wonders for him, not that he didn’t play well overseas, but it’s great to see him flourish in the environment at the Bulls, and I’m hoping he can do the same here.”
