Fans are all pointing out the same issue with Newcastle Red Bulls new crest
The newly named Newcastle Red Bulls have revealed their brand new club crest and playing strips, which will be first showcased on Friday night when Steve Diamond’s team hosts Harlequins in the PREM Rugby Cup.
A statement released by the club formerly known as Newcastle Falcons read: “The new club crest encompasses the North Star, reflecting Newcastle Red Bulls’ status as the league’s northernmost club as well as giving direction.
“The dynamic bulls represent the driving force with the club always moving forward, with other elements of the design incorporating a rugby ball and the Tyne Bridge.
“As well as the black home kit, Newcastle Red Bulls have also unveiled their gold away shirt, demonstrating a proud connection with the club’s professional history.
“The club wore black with gold trim in lifting their 1997/98 Premiership title – still the only team ever to win the top-flight crown the first season after promotion.”
The new kit and crest strongly encompass the Red Bull branding that has also been seen on the other sporting ventures the company have been involved in, which include but are not limited to the New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Leipzig football clubs.

Fan reaction
Fans have been mixed in their response to the update, with many already finding issues with the branding. One person said: “So… are they called Newcastle Red Bull or Newcastle Red Bulls? The shirt, website logo, and other branding is different to the crest logo so someone needs to make their mind up.”
Another added simply: “I like these! But Red Bull instead of Red Bulls on the crest is an interesting choice.”
The majority appear to struggle with the new branding, but like anything, it could grow on people. One fan was appreciative of his club being saved, but didn’t appear to like the change: “Don’t like, will keep my Newcastle shirt. Many thanks for saving the club though.”
Others noted the Americanism to the update, but felt that they could look past that to have their club saved: “Feels like an American soccer logo lol but it could have been worse. Worth it for some of the awesome signings”, and “Looks too American soccer based. That the only negative. Great to see Falcons being saved from being lost from rugby just like Wasps etc.”
Newcastle Red Bulls have already made plenty of signings since announcing their takeover, with the statement recruitment of Christian Wade being the pick of the bunch so far.
