Newcastle Falcons have announced an addition to their front row stocks for the 2015/16 season in the shape of highly-rated prop Ben Harris from Yorkshire Carnegie.

The 25-year-old from Huddersfield has been making a name for himself in the Championship for the past three seasons, initially as part of the Rotherham Titans set up and then since a loan spell in 2012/13 at the Headingley based side.

He has in that time, established himself as one of the brightest young talents in the division, with representative honours for Yorkshire at U18, U20 and open age level and for England Counties.

Primarily a loosehead prop, Harris can also play at tighthead, bringing versatility as well as ability and skill

He will join up with the Falcons on a two-year deal at Kingston Park and says that his mind was made up about making the switch following talks with Director of Rugby Dean Richards.

“I spoke to Dean and there is a really good vision and a really good plan in place for the next few years, there are some quality coaches and a really good squad that already has fantastic players there. I want to go up and learn as much as I can and test myself at the top end of the game," said Harris.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Yorkshire, where I’ve played with some good players and again I’ve worked with some fantastic coaches, who have really helped me to come along and who I owe a lot of thanks to for improving me as a player.”

Dean Richards said: “Ben is a very well regarded young prop who has been being watched by a number of clubs after impressing in the Championship and I am pleased that he will be making his way to us for next season.”

“He will add to our prop options and will complement and enhance the talent pool we already have in that position.”
