New Zealand outside back the latest player to join NRL outfit

After the recent announcement of Wallabies wing Mark Nawaqanitawase’s impending move to rugby league, rugby union has suffered another setback after it was revealed that New Zealand outside back Solomon Alaimalo has joined NRL outfit Wests Tigers.
The 27-year-old has joined the Sydney-based outfit’s squad for the 2024 NRL season.
Experienced player
Alaimalo has plenty of Super Rugby experience after stints with the Chiefs and Highlanders in that competition and he represented Canterbury in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship in 2023.
Wests Tigers head coach Benji Marshall, who had a brief stint with the Blues in Super Rugby in 2014, is delighted to acquire Alaimolo’s service and expects the speedster to add a lot to the squad.
“We’re very excited to have Solomon join the club,” Marshall told Wests Tigers’ official website. “He is a very explosive athlete with great speed, power, and agility.
“He will also add leadership and experience to our group, and he is a man of great character.”
Excited to make the switch
Alaimalo, who is almost two metres tall, is excited to make the switch and is happy with what he saw on his first day in his new surroundings.
“It’s been a really nice welcome from everyone here at Wests Tigers from the moment I touched down last night,” he said
“This place [the Zurich Centre] is amazing and I can’t wait to settle in and get stuck into pre-season training.
“There are a lot of guys in the squad who are from back home, including Benji, so that probably will make it even easier for me to adjust to my new home here at Wests Tigers.”
