Munster edge Trevisio

Munster edged past Treviso with the help of Ian Keatley to secure a 16-13 victory in the PRO12 League.

Gerhard van den Heever scored the first try of the game, before Robert Barbieri's try coupled with Jayden Hayward's conversion took the Italians ahead.

The loss meant Treviso's revival in recent week hit a stumbling block, as they remain rock bottom in the PRO12 League. The game's first try came as Munster's forwards drove towards the Treviso line, before the ball was shipped to the left wing, allowing South African winger van den Heever to touch down in the corner. Ian Keatley failed with his first attempt at the posts.

It took another 15 minutes for the next score to come, with Treviso's Robert Barbieri steamrolling his way to the try line to dab the ball down on the 25-minute mark.

Full-back Jayden Hayward added the extras from the tee. Hayward was close to scoring a try of his own after the break, before referee Ian Davies ruled it out with assistance from the TMO. Shortly after, Treviso's fullback slotted a penalty to take the score to 10-5 in the Italian's favour.

Minutes later, a strong scrum from the Munster pack was backed up by outside centre Francis Saili, who slid across the whitewash to bring the scores level.

Once again, Keatley failed to convert. Minutes later, a strong Munster scrum gave outside centre Francis Saili the chance to dab down, but after Keatley missed the resulting conversion, the scores stayed level with just over 20 minutes left in the game. In an attempt to edge his team in to the lead, fly-half Sam Christie attempted a drop goal but it flew wide, before Hayward slotted a penalty two minutes later to add three points to the Italians' tally.

Four minutes later Keatley finally found his kicking boots, slotting a penalty to bring the scores level yet again with just over ten minutes remaining. The Irish international then had the final say on proceedings, as he slotted the deciding penalty inside the final five minutes, before Dave Kilcoyne was shown to the sin-bin for the remainder of the match.

Despite securing a losing bonus point, the loss means Treviso remain at the bottom of the PRO12 League, while Munster remained in sixth following the 16-13 win in North-Eastern Italy.
