Mealamu: ‘I feel really proud’

Keven Mealamu opened up on what it meant to have played for the Blues after this 175th and final game for the side.

The All Blacks hooker bowed out on a disappointing 44-7 loss to the Highlanders but even that couldn't diminish what Mealamu has achieved in Super Rugby with the side since his debut in 2000.

A standing ovation from the 9,500 supporters in at Eden Park sent the 36-year-old on his way.

"To be able to be here this long I feel really proud and privileged to represent this club for the last 15 years," Mealamu told TVNZ.

"It's something I wanted to do as a kid."

A tough season for the Blues has pushed the side to the limit, with Mealamu hoping a young group will be stronger for the experience next year.

"We've definitely been tested this year so it's a good experience to take on and learn from. I can take something from these lessons and become a better player and person."

Mealamu rounded off by paying tribute to the Blues supporters.

"Thank you. It's been a real pleasure being out there and representing you each week."
