McCall hails ‘brilliant’ set-piece

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall was thrilled with the performance of his pack after their win over Leicester Tigers.

Three penalty tries, two via the scrum and one from the maul, set Saracens up for a 12th win in 12 matches so far this season.

Referee Greg Garner went under the posts on three occasions as Leicester had no answer for Saracens' power and precision in the set-piece.

England hooker Jamie George produced Saracens' fourth try to make it a bonus point victory at Allianz Park.

"Our set-piece was brilliant. We went to a different level in the second half and our set-piece allowed us to dominate," McCall said.

"We carried brilliantly and harassed them in the second half. Our maul was magnificent.

"Petrus du Plessis, I’m not sure how he wasn’t Man of the Match but to scrummage that way against Marcos Ayerza takes some doing."

McCall also spoke highly of England lock George Kruis, the Man of the Match, suggesting that he was a shoe-in selection for Eddie Jones ahead of the Six Nations.

"I think he’s an absolute dead cert for a starting position with England."
