Old Glory DC claim late Major League Rugby win in dramatic fashion.
The Major League Rugby (MLR) season opener ended in dramatic fashion as a moment to forget for Miami Sharks led to Old Glory DC claiming a come-from-behind win.
With the clock in the red and Miami leading 29-24, all the Sharks had to do was kick the ball into touch and they would begin the new MLR campaign with a home triumph.
However, replacement scrum-half Damian Morley was charged down by an opposing forward, which gave Old Glory a final chance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Chaos at the end
The ricocheted kicked ended up in DC’s hands on halfway and they spread the play out to the right wing before being brought to the ground with Miami’s defence all at sea.
Then came the moment of brilliance from Old Glory fly-half Jason Robertson as he spotted wide open space on the other sideline and opted to make a cross-field kick that he would have hoped would skip on to an onrushing Axel Muller.
However, the ball sat up and instead caused problems for backtracking Sharks fly-half Martin Elias.

Muller was pressured hard by Elias who ultimately came off second best to the Argentina Sevens star as the DC wing gathered and grounded to level the scores with the conversion to come.

Robertson was tasked with sending over the extra two points and made no mistake to wrap up the stunning victory over Miami as Old Glory celebrated the unlikely success.
This was Muller’s third try of the match while Robertson added his team’s other crossing while for the Sharks, Mauro Rebussone (2), Tomas Cubilla and Ake Muti went over.
However, the focus afterwards was of course on the final Muller try with a reader on X, formerly Twitter, summing it up by writing, “Miami fans are probably quite upset.”
Someone else commented, “A good way to begin the season” as the mood was positive over how the MLR season began. “What an ending,” another wrote after DC’s win.
