‘Love to see it!’ – Finn Russell lauded for shushing the Shed as Bath conquer Kingsholm

Fans on social media have largely celebrated Bath fly-half Finn Russell shushing the infamous Shed at Kingsholm in their Premiership clash on Friday night.

The Scotland international was very much the “pantomime villain” at the famous venue as he helped lead Bath to an impressive 45-27 victory over their rivals.

Ollie Lawrence scored twice for Bath, with Will Muir, Thomas du Toit and Beno Obano the other players to touch down for the visitors. There was also a penalty try, with Russell kicking five conversions and a penalty goal. However, the moment everyone was talking about during and after the game has been the fly-half’s shush.

Largely positive

RugbyInsideLine quoted the video posted by Premiership Rugby on Friday, saying: “Finn Russell making an early first impression with the Shed! Love to see it!”

Meanwhile, Mark Robson wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “If you don’t have a man crush on Finn Russell, please seek help,” so he’s clearly a supporter.

There were numerous replies under the video as Shane Cooper applauded how Russell responded to the Shed. “Fair play to him. Banter given – and given back!”

The replies continued to be largely positive on the social media platform as Phillip Kelly wrote, “The league needs characters like Finn. Great for the game.”

It wasn’t just Bath fans and neutrals who enjoyed the moment in the Premiership game as Neil, a Gloucester fan, wrote on X. “As a Glos man, I still love this!”

Bath’s result was built on an impressive second 40 as they came from 10 points down at the break to beat the Cherry and Whites 45-27 in the West Country derby.

Director of rugby Johann van Graan, whose side moved to the top of the standings ahead of the weekend games, was delighted with how they finished the match.

“The second half was pretty cool as we showed that on a dry night, we can certainly cause sides a lot of problems when we enter their 22,” he said after the win.

“We learnt a lot from playing here last year and picked a well-balanced side, but we made a number of errors in the first half and couldn’t build up any momentum.

Rewarding victory

“Gloucester were fantastic by playing with width in that first half but we spoke at half-time at being more clinical and to back our fitness, so to win the second half 35-7 was particularly rewarding.

“However, I’m particularly pleased at how well we defended our line against multiple phases, and overall it was a fantastic advertisement for Premiership Rugby and a great West Country derby.

“We want the squad to get better. This is just year two of our journey, and who knows where we will be at the end of the season.”
