Former Wales and British & Irish Lions winger Louis Rees-Zammit reportedly has an ‘offer on the table’ to keep his NFL dream alive.

The Welshman is currently a free agent after his contract at Jacksonville Jaguars ended.

Louis Rees-Zammit’s NFL lifeline

The 23-year-old joined the Florida-based outfit after the Kansas City Chiefs, whom he initially signed for in March, opted to cut him from their roster.

Rees-Zammit failed to make his debut during the NFL regular season despite head coach Doug Pederson stating that he would get his chance eventually.

However, Pederson has since been sacked after a dreadful season which which saw them win just four of their 17 regular season matches.

Rees-Zammit’s future is now up in the air and is expected to make a decision on his future in the next few weeks, with a return to rugby union on the cards.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, the Jaguars have given the Welshman a chance to keep his dream of playing in the NFL alive by offering him a deal to return next season.

The report adds that as it stands, Rees-Zammit has shown ‘little indication’ that he is ready to ‘ditch’ his dream of playing in the NFL but is weighing up his options.

Because he is a free agent, he could field interest from other teams across the league but official talks can only start once the season is completed.

While Jacksonville have reportedly offered Rees-Zammit, the situation is further complicated by the fact that the Jaguars are on the lookout for a new head coach after Pederson’s departure.

Jacksonville have already signed seven players to reserve/futures contracts but Rees-Zammit was not on that list. These deals are used to tie practice squad members or free agents to a team and ward off potential interest.

He could still remain at the Jaguars for another season but if he were to consider a return to rugby, he would likely not be short of offers to do so.

Rees-Zammit is currently on holiday in Thailand.
