‘Leicester Tigers can still improve’ – Jonah Holmes

Leicester Tigers full-back Jonah Holmes believes there is still plenty more their squad are capable of delivering on the pitch this season.

Holmes said that was the biggest positive to come from Saturday’s bonus-point victory over Gloucester at Welford Road.

Speaking at full-time, a visibly happy Holmes told the Tigers’ official website: “We’re all really happy in here with the win and display we put on in front of our home fans.

“But, I think what’s most pleasing is that we know we can do even better and are capable of even more.”

Holmes crossed for one of Tigers’ four tries in the 34-16 victory over long-time rivals Gloucester after being shifted to full-back following a month on the wing for Leicester and said he’s growing more and more comfortable in the role.

“I feel like I’m improving with each chance I get at the back and really enjoying playing there, especially on the end of a backline like we have,” he added.

“We backs owe a lot to the effort of the forward pack today, who were awesome in delivering front foot ball for us from the very first minute.”

Leicester now turn to the final fortnight of European fixtures in this season’s Champions Cup pool stages and the Welsh international is relishing the chance to face off against some familiar faces when the Tigers take on the Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday.

“It probably means a bit more personally than it might have before I made my debut,” added Holmes, who received his first Test cap in the 2018 November internationals for Wales.

“There are a lot of guys from Scarlets I got to know well over Autumn and I’m excited for the challenge of taking them on.”
