Leicester Tigers have revealed their new kit for the 2023/24 season, and Premiership rivals Saracens have been brutal in their review of it on social media.

The new kit supplied by Samurai has already gone on sale, with the black alternate also being released.

In a statement revealing the new kit, Leicester said the 2023/24 jersey was based “on the classic kits of times gone by, reflected through the return to the heritage green but given a futuristic twist, with a striking, eye-catching geometric Tiger and a glitch effect on the vintage red and white stripes.”

However, many felt that the ‘Tiger’ looked far more like a Lion.

Premiership rivals and defending champions Saracens were quick to react to the kit rival quote retweeting with the caption: Can’t wait to play Leicester *checks kit* Lions next season.

Leicester Lions RFC, a National 1 team, responded to Saracens’ tweet saying, “Ready when you are Saracens”, with the Premiership club adding: “Terribly sorry to have dragged you into all this. Tigers, Lions, Ligers… you’re all brilliant teams.”

The London club followed that up with a clip from the movie Napoleon Dynamite, where Napoleon draws a picture of a Liger.

“Seems to have caused a bit of a stir. Our apologies, Leicester Ligers*”, the post read.

The lighter green is a change from the recent norm for the club.

The statement added: “The jersey represents a return to the lighter, ‘heritage’ green of times gone by, allowing fans to reminisce about John Player Cup triumphs and a burgeoning dominance in the Premiership.

“But the colour also represents the future of this club, its inherent brightness a reflection of a robust core of young players, with Tigers DNA running through them, who look to help carry the club through the next generation.

“The colour has been rarely seen for over 20 years, only appearing on the jerseys worn by the Tigers Academy, in order to ensure that those legends of the club who have laid the groundwork for the next generation to succeed are acknowledged.

“With Academy graduates such as Joe Heyes George Martin, Freddie Steward, Jack van Poortvliet, and James Whitcombe having donned the heritage green in their formative years at Leicester, a time that included an unbeaten youth season. They are as excited about the return to the ‘classic colours’ as anyone.”

The 2023/24 Premiership season will get underway on Friday, October 13, with the final taking place on Saturday, June 8, at Twickenham Stadium.

The full fixture list is expected on Tuesday, July 18.
