Premiership side Sale Sharks have announced the signing of Rugby League star Josh Charnley from Wigan.

Still only 24 years of age Charnley has played 152 games for Wigan and scored an incredible 148 tries and kicked 94 goals.

Born in Chorley, Lancashire, Charnley joined Wigan St Patricks before joining Wigan Warriors in 2010.

Charnley has also played for the England Rugby League on seven occasions and scored eight tries.

During his time at Wigan, Charnley has won two Grand Finals (2010 and 2013), two Challenge Cup Medals (2011 and 2013) and has twice topped the Super League try scoring charts (2012 and 2013).

Commenting on the signing, Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond said, "Josh is a great signing for us. He was schooled in the famous Wigan Academy and everyone I have spoken to rates him very highly.

"He has explosive pace and can play either full-back or on the wing.

"The last big signing we made from Wigan back in 2000 was Jason Robinson and what an impact he had.

"I am sure Josh will fit in perfectly with us at Sale Sharks and look forward to him joining us later this year."
