La Rochelle boss Ronan O’Gara could face yet another touchline ban

La Rochelle head coach Ronan O’Gara is set to face a disciplinary hearing for his actions towards a match official during his team’s 32-10 loss to Racing 92.
It is not the first time O’Gara has been in hot water for his actions having served four touchline bans including a massive 10-game ban in November last year where his actions were deemed to be “harming the best interests of rugby”.
Critical period
The hearing will take place the week of the Champions Cup final replay against Leinster and La Rochelle will be desperate to have their tactician in the mix for that big occasion.
The Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) confirmed that disciplinary action would take place confirming the hearing for December 6.
“Following the above-mentioned match [Racing 92 v Stade Rochelais], the match officials appointed for this meeting reported the behaviour of Mr. Ronan O’Gara, coach of Stade Rochelais,” reads a statement from the LNR.
“The situation in question is likely to constitute an infringement of the General Regulations of the LNR and the FFR.
“Mr. Ronan O’Gara and Stade Rochelais are summoned before the Disciplinary Commission and regulations at its meeting of December 6, 2023.
“Mr. Ronan O’Gara is not suspended pending this hearing.”
Rocky start to the season
It has not been the golden start from the back-to-back European champions, who sit low down the Top 14 table with just three wins from five games.
O’Gara’s men will be hoping to build some momentum in December during the Champions Cup fixtures with the goal of taking it back to the league action.
However, it is a challenging schedule for La Rochelle, who will face Leinster before taking the trip to Cape Town to face the Stormers for the first time ever.
O’Gara will have to wait until next week to find out the consequences of his actions.
