England have been handed a fitness boost with the news that second-row Joe Launchbury has been ruled fit for Saturday’s Test against the Springboks.
The 27-year-old missed the opening Test in Johannesburg due to a calf injury sustained in training and there were concerns that he might also miss this weekend’s showdown in Bloemfontein.
However, he was able to train with the rest of the England squad in Durban on Wednesday and is set to be in the run-on side as they try to gain revenge after their 42-39 defeat to the Boks last weekend.
England forwards coach Steve Borthwick confirmed that Launchbury’s recovery is on track.
“Joe Launchbury trained today and trained well,” he told Press Association Sport.
“He’s done a great job with his rehabilitation and is available for selection.”
