‘It’s been a season of lows’ – Gibson

Waratahs head coach Daryl Gibson said it was "incredibly disappointing" to end the season with such a poor showing against the Force.

The 'Tahs were thumped 40-11 in Perth as they ended their 2017 Super Rugby campaign with just four victories from 15 games, losing 11.

After the game Gibson told the Canberra Times: "It's fair to say we're pretty low. It has been a season of lows and to finish off in that manner is incredibly disappointing. Credit to the Force, they played better wet weather rugby and thoroughly deserved their win. They showed a lot of fight and desire.

"I don't think we'd ever put up the white flag but certainly that losing spiral is a difficult one to break. They played excellent and deserved their win."

The Waratahs finished in fourth place in the Australian Conference and 16th overall, but Gibson expects his side to bounce back and had a message for their critics.

"They're fully entitled to their opinion," Gibson said of the bad press. "It's been a disappointing year, a tough year, only winning four games. But what I can say is the Waratahs have been here before.

"We've had seasons where we've been low and the following year we've transformed ourselves. It's not impossible and it's a task I'm very passionate about and if I get the privilege and honour to lead the team. We can't have another season like this, that's clear.

"We know the areas we need to fix and we need to go about transforming ourselves and keep to the plan."
