Italy will be without the services of hooker Leonardo Ghiraldini and prop Andrea Lovotti when they face the Springboks in Florence on Saturday.

Ghiraldini left the field with a toe injury in the 68-10 defeat to New Zealand in Rome at the weekend and Lovotti sustained a rib injury in the same match.

Both players have returned to their respective clubs and will play no further part in the Azzurri‘s November Test campaign.

“Ghiraldini was diagnosed with an injury to his big toe and Lovotti suffered a knock to the cartilage in his ribcage,” Italy team manager Luigi Troiani told AFP.

“These injuries have ruled them out of further participation in the November tests.”

Italy head coach Conor O’Shea hascalled up Treviso prop Nicola Quaglio as Lovotti’s replacement while Zebre hooker Tommaso D’Apice comes in for Ghiraldini.

Treviso flanker Marco Barbini has also been called up.
