Following a thrilling 32-19 victory over France in their Six Nations Test at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, here are the player ratings for Ireland.
15 Hugo Keenan: Just doesn’t put a foot wrong at the back. Scored a lovely try and stood out in most facets of the game. 8
14 Mack Hansen: Didn’t have as much chance to impress as James Lowe, but he made some smart decisions throughout. Denied a try by some Antoine Dupont brilliance. 7
13 Garry Ringrose: The linchpin in the backline and he didn’t disappoint against France. Ringrose has stepped up another level this season and is in career-best form. 9
12 Stuart McCloskey: Carried hard, defended well and his physical presence was important during the game. Not the most influential back, but has deservedly cemented place in the XV. 7
11 James Lowe: Scored a brilliant try, although France will contest whether he was in touch. Irrespective of that, he was a threat throughout and caused problems for the visiting defence. 8
10 Johnny Sexton (c): An outstanding performance before he was unfortunately forced to come off injured. Despite being 37, Sexton still has a surprising amount of pace. Let’s hope the injury isn’t too bad. 9
9 Conor Murray: Has stepped in nicely for Jamison Gibson-Park. Doesn’t have the spark of Gibson-Park but controlled play nicely at the base and consistently took the right options. 7
Simply magnificent Caelan Doris
8 Caelan Doris: Simply outstanding yet again. Doris carried for over 100 metres, mainly in traffic, and was also excellent without the ball. You won’t see a better performance in this Six Nations. 10
7 Josh van der Flier: The World Rugby Player of the Year continues to impress, influencing matters in both defence and attack. 8
6 Peter O’Mahony: Gets through a mountain of work, but not quite as influential as his brilliant back-row colleagues. 7
5 James Ryan: Getting better and better, producing his best international performance for some time. Physical, abrasive and good in the set-piece. 9
4 Tadhg Beirne: Like Sexton, was forced off with an injury early in the second period, but was influential in the first half. There was a key breakdown win and some excellent work both sides of the ball. 8
3 Finlay Bealham: Another good display from the tighthead. Held up his end of the scrum and was busy in the loose. He’s not Tadhg Furlong – who is? – but he’s proving himself at Test level and is showing that Ireland are building depth. 7
2 Rob Herring: Went off with a head injury after Uini Atonio’s illegal hit, but still put himself about in that time. 6
1 Andrew Porter: Scrum battle was even but he made his presence known in the loose, even if there were a few too many missed tackles. 7
Replacements: Ronan Kelleher, Tom O’Toole and Iain Henderson brought plenty of energy and physicality up front, while Craig Casey stepped up impressively at scrum-half. 8
