Leinster and Glasgow Warriors celebrate after winning their Champions Cup ties.

The draw for the Investec Champions Cup quarter-finals has been confirmed following Toulouse’s victory over Sale Sharks in the final round-of-16 clash.

Les Rouge et Noir overcame the Premiership side 38-15 on Sunday to confirm the eight sides that will take their place in the next round.

Toulouse will face fellow French outfit Toulon, the defending champions having to play away from home despite finishing with six more points in their group.

Ugo Mola’s men ended up in second position in their pool with Bordeaux-Begles securing a perfect 20 from 20 following four bonus-point triumphs.

Bordeaux then followed up their dominant round-robin phase by overcoming Ulster 43-31 in the round-of-16 as they set up a match with Munster.

Significant Munster win

The Irish province undoubtedly produced the result of the round when they defeated La Rochelle at the Stade Marcel-Deflandre, with Jack Crowley’s drop-goal proving crucial in downing the Ronan O’Gara-led side.

Another Irish side, Leinster, will kick off the Champions Cup quarter-finals when they take on fellow United Rugby Championship outfit Glasgow Warriors.

Both were convincing winners in their respective last-16 ties with the Dubliners making a big statement with a 62-0 thrashing of Harlequins, while Glasgow Warriors hammered another Premiership team in Leicester Tigers.

It was not a good weekend for the Englishmen but they did manage to get one team through to the quarter-finals when Northampton Saints opened the knockout phase with a 46-24 triumph over Clermont Auvergne.

The Saints were semi-finalists last season – where they succumbed to Leinster – and they will hope to get there again with Castres visiting Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday.

It could have been Benetton, who led the 14-man French outfit 37-32 going into the latter stages of that contest, but a late try broke Italian hearts.
