‘Influential’ All Blacks forward provides boost to Scott Robertson with New Zealand Rugby contract extension

All Blacks and Blues second-row Patrick Tuipulotu.
The Blues have announced that their captain and All Blacks second-row Patrick Tuipulotu has recommitted to the Auckland-based outfit and New Zealand Rugby (NZR) after agreeing terms on a contract extension.
The 32-year-old is a respected figure in New Zealand rugby and his decision to extend his stay with the Blues is a major boost for the current Super Rugby Pacific champions.
Tuipulotu, who is a talismanic leader and cornerstone of the Blues pack, has made more than 100 appearances for the men from Auckland after making his debut for the club in 2014 and has established himself as one of the most dominant locks in Super Rugby.
“This club is home. I care deeply about the people, the jersey, and what it represents,” Tuipulotu said.
‘There’s still more to come’
“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, but I believe there’s still more to come. I’m excited about the future and honoured to lead this team into the next chapter.”
At 1.98 metres in height, Tuipulotu is an intimidating figure and his high work-rate and imposing physicality makes him a key figure for both the Blues and All Blacks.
After becoming the Blues’ full-time captain in 2020, Tuipulotu has helped shape the culture of the club and played a leading role during their title-winning Super Rugby Pacific campaign in 2024.
Although he suffered a serious knee injury late in the season, Tuipulotu returned to action to lead his team to victory over the Chiefs in that year’s final in front of his home fans at Eden Park.
Tuipulotu’s journey began at St Peter’s College in Auckland before he rose through the New Zealand Schools and U20 ranks.
Blues chief executive Andrew Hore said Tuipulotu’s re-signing represents much more than a just a contract extension.
‘Leads with integrity’
“Patrick is the heartbeat of this team. He leads with integrity, plays with passion, and gives everything for the jersey,” he said.
“His decision to stay is a powerful endorsement of what we’ve built here at the Blues, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him with us through 2028.”
NZR general manager professional rugby & performance Chris Lendrum said it is exciting that Tuipulotu has agreed terms on a contract extension.
“Pat’s resilience, dedication and consistency have been hallmarks of his career for the past decade, and he has grown into an influential leader in our game on and off the field,” he added.
“Committing to a further three years is testament to the passion and commitment Pat has for the teams and communities he represents, and his loyalty to New Zealand.”
Meanwhile, All Blacks forwards coach Jason Ryan added to the endorsement.
“Patty brings a wealth of experience and a calm, commanding presence that lifts the standard of everyone around him,” he said.
“His leadership on and off the field is immense and having a player of his calibre commit to New Zealand Rugby through to 2028 is fantastic news.”
