Huw Jones set for milestone game as Scotland announce team for tour finale against Uruguay
Scotland centre Huw Jones will win his 50th international cap when Gregor Townsend’s team face Uruguay in the final game of their Americas tour on Saturday.
The Glasgow Warriors player has been named as a starter alongside Stafford McDowall as the Scots look to complete a four wins from four record on their mid-year tour.
There are two players retained in the starting XV for the match in Montevideo, with Kyle Rowe, fresh from scoring his first Scotland tries in last weekend’s hard-fought win over Chile, switching from full-back to the wing and Ben Healy named at fly-half.
Van der Merwe eyes record try
Duhan van der Merwe, one shy of becoming Scotland men’s outright all-time top try scorer, joins the promising Harry Paterson at full-back to complete the back three.
Busy scrum-half George Horne comes in to partner Healy at half-back.
Townsend has named an all-new pack that sees Rory Darge lead the side from openside flanker, with Luke Crosbie playing at blindside and Matt Fagerson at number eight.
Rugby at the Olympics: Failed bids, past winners and the sevens format
Max Williamson and Scott Cummings form a fresh combination in the second-row, the former having appeared in each of the three matches on this summer’s Americas tour.
Ewan Ashman gets the nod at hooker, either side of propping duo Rory Sutherland (loosehead) and Javan Sebastian (tighthead).
The replacements include Jamie Dobie and Kyle Steyn, who will become ever-presents on the tour should they come on against Uruguay. Adam Hastings, Jamie Ritchie, Gregor Brown, Murphy Walker, Pierre Schoeman and Patrick Harrison, who debuted in the win over Chile, complete the matchday 23.
