The Hurricanes and Chiefs will contest the Super Rugby Pacific Grand Final on Saturday, June 20, at the Hnry Stadium in Wellington.

The two New Zealand franchises progress to the showpiece event after emphatic semi-final victories, with the ‘Canes now chasing just their second-ever title while the Chiefs attempt to clinch their third.

Semi-final victories

After topping the table after the regular season, the Hurricanes faced off against the Brumbies in the Qualifying Final and made light work of the Australian side, charging to a record 66-12 victory. That meant that they would play the lucky losers from the first knockout stage, which was ultimately the Blues, who were hammered 52-31 by the Crusaders.

While the Aucklanders made a good fist of the semi-final on Saturday in Wellington, they were completely outplayed in the second half as Clarke Laidlaw’s men raced to a 57-21 victory to set up a finals date with the Chiefs.

The men from Waikato defeated the Queensland Reds in their first knockout match before ending the Crusaders’ title defence in Hamilton on Friday night, where the Chiefs ran away for a 49-12 Semi-Final victory at FMG Stadium Waikato.

Where are they now? First Hurricanes team to win Super Rugby in 2016

The Hurricanes, who led the competition through the regular season, are hunting their second-ever Super Rugby championship after claiming their inaugural title back in 2016. Meanwhile, it’s a fourth-straight Grand Final appearance for the Chiefs, who are desperate for a change of fortune after falling short in the last three deciders.
