Higginbotham linked with Reds return

Australia international Scott Higginbotham is reportedly a targeted signing for the Reds ahead of 2017.

Higginbotham enjoyed great success with the Reds before leaving for the Rebels in 2012, including helping the side win the Super Rugby title in 2011.

The 29-year-old left the Rebels to head to Japan last season but ruptured his achilles, although Higginbotham is nearing a full return.

However he is yet to speak to any sides about his next move.

“It’s a tough injury because the recovery is so slow but I’ve started running again and will be back to full strength in a month,” Higginbotham told Fox Sports.

“I’ve had no talks with anyone. I’m happy where I am in Japan. Next year… I don’t know what I’ll be doing."

Higginbotham has watched on from afar as the Rebels have made huge strides in 2016, and he believes the side he used to captain can make the knockout stages.

“I really think the Rebels can nail a play-off spot for the first time,” Higginbotham said.

“They have a core of players who’ve been together for a few seasons now, know each other’s game and have good direction.”
