England winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso was sent off after 33 minutes against France XV.

England head coach Steve Borthwick and co-captain George Ford insist the group will ‘get around’ Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, following his red card against France XV.

The Exeter Chiefs winger was marking his comeback from a six-month layoff in yesterday’s game at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, but his return only lasted 33 minutes as he was shown a yellow card, which was later upgraded to red upon review.

Speaking after the game, Borthwick said: “He’s gutted. Manny Feyi-Waboso is a good guy who tries his heart out, and he left his emotions out on the field today, and it didn’t go the way he wanted it to. He’s gutted in the changing room, but we’ll get around him and then we’ll find out about the situation in the next 24 hours.”

He also shed some light on the disciplinary process now facing his star winger, revealing the news of any potential ban should come before his squad fly out to Argentina for the summer tour.

“There’s a process in place which starts tomorrow morning, so we’ll get an early indication,” said Borthwick. We should know before Tuesday (when England fly to Argentina).

“I’m not going to comment on it. The officials made a decision on the day and we’ll see what the disciplinary comes back with.”

His comments were also echoed by fly-half George Ford, who said the playing group will support the winger.

“It’s all pretty raw right now, so it’s hard to say anything to him other than ‘keep your head up’ to be honest,” he said. “What will be will be with the disciplinary process, but look, he’s gutted in there. You just want to get around him and support him.

“He’s gutted, disappointed, but we’ll have to see what happens with the disciplinary process.”

Should Feyi-Waboso receive a ban, it could rule him out of the entire summer tour of the Americas, and possibly even the British and Irish Lions squad if Andy Farrell were to draft him in.
